Toyota Troubles Put Spotlight On US Safety Agency
11 Mar 2010 at 12:24pm
A top government auto safety official tells Congress that his agency may need more authority to regulate the auto industry. David Strickland says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will take a "hard look" at the power it has to set safety standards for automakers. He says NHTSA's current authority may be outdated given the modern technology used in cars and trucks.

Spike In Prius Complaints May Not Be All It Seems
11 Mar 2010 at 10:30am
Reports of sudden acceleration in the Toyota Prius have spiked across the country. But that doesn't mean there's an epidemic of bad gas pedals in the popular hybrid. Experts on consumer psychology say the relentless negative media attention Toyota has received since the fall makes it much more likely that drivers will mistake anything unexpected — or even a misplaced foot — for actual danger.

Americans' Net Worth Up For 3rd Straight Quarter
11 Mar 2010 at 9:23am
American households saw their wealth increase at the end of last year, mainly because the healing economy boosted stock portfolios. The Federal Reserve says household net worth rose 1.3 percent in the fourth quarter to $54.2 trillion. It marked the third straight quarter of gains. Net worth had risen 4.5 percent in the second quarter of 2009 and an even stronger 5.5 percent in the third quarter.

Bank of America customers will soon be unable to spend more than they have in the accounts linked to their debit cards. 10 Mar 2010 at 6:22am
"A Prius? And what's going on? Is your accelerator stuck?" That was the response from a Southern California 911 dispatcher after an apparently terrified man on a San Diego highway called for help from his out-of-control car. "I tried to pull it back - it won't pull back," driver James Sikes says, his voice quivering in released audio of the call. "I tried to push on the brakes."

Toyota To Expand Recall Of Tundra Pickups For Rust
9 Mar 2010 at 7:01pm

Samsung, Panasonic Start Selling 3-D TVs This Week
9 Mar 2010 at 7:59pm
Want to be the first one on your block with a 3-D television? It will cost you about $3,000. Samsung and Panasonic will start selling 3-D TVs in U.S. stores this week, inaugurating what manufacturers hope is the era of 3-D viewing in the living room. But because the sets require bulky glasses, and there is for now little to watch in the enhanced format, it will take at least a few years for the technology to become mainstream, if that happens at all. Samsung Electronics Co. announced Tuesday that it is selling two 3-D sets this week. For $3,000, buyers get a 46-inch set, two pairs of glasses and a 3-D Blu-ray player.
